📚🚗 Hayward Reading Road Trip Update!
Our readers are on the move! So far, our school has “traveled” 250.3 miles on our reading journey. We made a stop in De Smet to visit the Little Town on the Prairie and then followed the yellow brick road to Aberdeen to explore Storybook Land and celebrate The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Remember—every 10 books we read moves us 1 mile down the road! Keep those reading logs coming so we can continue our adventure across South Dakota!

Our second graders are excited to invite you to their upcoming Music Concert on Thursday, March 19th at 6:00 PM!
This year’s program tells the story of a magical library that only opens at midnight. Students will share songs inspired by the story while we also enjoy the charming book “Midnight Library” by Kazuno Kohara. 🌙📖
Come support our young performers as they bring this magical nighttime library to life through music and storytelling!

Our 5th graders recently read "Whoosh!" — the story of inventor Lonnie Johnson, creator of the Super Soaker.
After learning about how he grew up experimenting, building, and inventing, students were given a random scoop of LEGO® bricks and challenged to use every single piece to design and build their own robot.
It was amazing to see their creativity, problem-solving skills, and perseverance in action. We may have a few future inventors in the making.

Nuestros estudiantes de 5.º grado leyeron recientemente Whoosh! — la historia del inventor Lonnie Johnson, creador del Super Soaker.
Después de aprender cómo creció experimentando, construyendo e inventando, los estudiantes recibieron una bolsa con una cantidad al azar de piezas de LEGO® y el reto de usar cada pieza para diseñar y construir su propio robot.

This week in library, our 1st graders practiced having a positive mindset. We read the book Perfect Square and noticed all the ways the square turned itself into something new each time it was torn, cut, or crumpled.
After reading, students were given their own “perfect square” and challenged to transform it into a brand-new picture. It was wonderful to see their creativity and how they embraced the idea that even when things change, something beautiful can still be created.

Esta semana en la biblioteca, nuestros estudiantes de 1.º grado practicaron tener una mentalidad positiva. Leímos el libro Perfect Square y observamos todas las maneras en que el cuadrado se transformaba en algo nuevo cada vez que era rasgado, cortado o arrugado.
Después de la lectura, los estudiantes recibieron su propio “cuadrado perfecto” y el desafío de transformarlo en una imagen completamente nueva. Fue maravilloso ver su creatividad y cómo aceptaron la idea de que, incluso cuando las cosas cambian, todavía se puede crear algo hermoso.
