There is a free one-day dental clinic for children through the age of 18 coming up on October 4.

Shout out to this great team of ladies who keep track of students getting on the school buses after school!

School bus drop-off delay! School bus 8154 and 8252 will be about 20 minutes behind schedule for drop-off today. If you would prefer to pick up your student, please notify the office. You can email Jasmine.Iddings@k12.sd.us or Jennifer.Hogan@k12.sd.us – or you can call the office at 605-362-3530.

Today is "Chalk the Walk" in support of 988 and bringing awareness to mental health. Fifth grade student council members participated by writing uplifting messages near the entrance to Discovery!

Do you need care in October on our no school days?

During science, classrooms 404 and 405 learned about solar energy and how it can be turned into electricity. Students learned how sunlight powers solar panels and then got to see it in action by using solar power to run small fans.

In honor of the anniversary of 9/11, classrooms 205 and 206 learned about heroes - firefighters, police officers, doctors, and everyday people - who came together to support one another. Students wrote what a hero is to them and who their heroes are.

In PE today, classrooms 201 and 206 were working hard learning about soccer. We might have some future star soccer players!

Jefferson High School's Homecoming is September 22 – 25. They are having dress-up days, and Discovery is participating! Check out the flyer below for a fun-filled week!

Get ready to show your Discovery pride! Spirit wear orders are here and are going home with students today. For those who opted to pick up their order at the monthly PTO meeting, we will see you on September 16, at 6:00 pm in the Discovery library. Forgot to order? The online spirit wear store will be open again in November.

Classroom K05 students have been working hard on learning their numbers! Today, they focused on the number 9. Students are holding up their favorite number from their “Number Book”. Great work, K05!

These classroom 305 students earned classroom dollars by being responsible in the classroom and by following the Explorer Way, which is take care of yourself, take care of others, and take care of this place. The classroom dollars can be used to buy different rewards. One of the rewards is lunch with the teacher! Way to go, students! #DiscoveryProud

At 8:00 am, all doors are locked except for the front main entrance leading you into the entryway. If you need to enter the school, you have to check-in at the office. There is a doorbell to the right of the office door that has a camera and microphone on it (see photos). The doorbell is similar to a home security system (ex. Ring, Blink). Ring the doorbell, stand in front of the camera, and office staff will assist you. Once entering the office, you may or may not have to present a government issued ID, so please bring it with you. Please do NOT enter the school through a side door as students are trying to enter in the morning or at dismissal. For the safety of students and staff, all visitors must come through the office.

Astro the Explorer visited K01 to kick off their lesson on the Explorer Way, which is: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, and Take Care of This Place!

Classroom 301 students are sharing facts and coloring their Star Student papers. Each student will celebrate their unique personality when they are the Star Student for one week!

After reading "Our Class is a Family" written by Shannon Olsen, classroom 203 created a heart puzzle to show how each student is an important piece of their classroom community. Their motto is: “Together we make something special because there's no place like 203!”

Classroom 505 did a team building activity! They worked in small groups to create a free standing circle using Pringles®. Each group received one can of Pringles® and could not use any other materials.
In library today, classroom 404 students used the very popular team books purchased by PTO to quiz each other on who knew the most sports trivia!

We’ve had a GREAT couple of days of school! It’s nice to ease into a new school year with a short week; however, we are looking forward to our first full week of school. Let’s make this the best year yet!
